Club History

Kiwanis International was founded in 1915. The name "Kiwanis" was coined from an American Indian expression, "Nunc Kee-wanis," which means, "We trade." In the early years, members focused on business networking but in 1919, the organization changed its focus to service - specifically service to children. In 1984, Kiwanis International approved the chartering of Kiwanianne Clubs for women, spouses, and widows of Kiwanis members.

Kiwanis Club of Scott County was chartered on May 24, 1961, with Jack Pitts as the Charter Club President.
